The Rediscovery of Achille Essebac

‘Trembling With Fear, Elated With Joy’

On 2 February 1905 a drama was enacted in Bonn which hit the headlines. Jules-Marie Malbranche, an eighteen-year-old student from Paris, shot himself through the head, not once, but twice, in broad daylight in a park. Miraculously, he survived this act of despair, which he had previously explained in a letter to his parents: he could not come to terms with his homosexuality, was unhappily in love, and had been strengthened in his resolution to end his life by the perusal of Dédé, a novel by Achille Essebac in which he had seen the reflection of his own conflict.

Masters & Servants Taking Care Of Each Other

If you take a look around in a porn shop, and whom of us doesn’t, every now and then, you’ll notice that a lot of different groups and professions have been sexualized, from scouts, students, and skinheads to police officers, inmates and soldiers. Most of these groups have some sort of uniform, they’re recognizable. Lately the porn market seems to have found another niche: the businessman. The British website Menatplay.com has completely dedicated itself to this theme and its popularity has already resulted in photo books, calendars and DVDs, including the first three installments of “Executive Pleasures.”

Pink Point - I'm In Love!

To The Point - True stories from Pink Point, the gay and lesbian info kiosk at the Homomonument. See http://www.pinkpoint.org

It’s summer and don’t we know it here at Pink Point! The temperature inside the kiosk gets over twenty-five degrees and that always makes me horny. Doesn’t it have that effect on everyone?

Right after opening shop a group of students of the People to People Student Ambassador Programs walk in. The Americans look around and my radar stops short at a dark boy with the most amazing green eyes I have ever seen.

The Big Penis Book

Big, Bigger, Best!
Notes On The Attraction of ‘A Little Bit More...’

Who, where or when I can’t remember, but somebody once said that there are two kinds of faggots: size queens and liars. Both now have “The Big Penis Book,” edited by Dian Hanson. Hanson writes in her preface “Size Matters...” that many people she showed the selected photos to, spontaneously cried out: “I wouldn’t let that near me!” I’ve heard a couple of those responses in my own circle as well - clearly from the second category, sorry.

Lots of Praise for New Church

The paint was hardly dry when the brand new “cruise club” Church threw open its doors just in time for Gay Pride at the beginning of August. After years of seeing one club close after another (think iT, Roxy, Mazzo) finally Amsterdam could boast a new venue, and what’s more, on the Kerkstraat, the original gay street of Amsterdam. Behind the new club is the GALA foundation, more than fifteen years active in promoting gay Amsterdam and well known for, amongst others, its non-profit parties on the Homomonument.

Letter from Brussels - Faggot With A Bow Tie

Dear Northern Neighbors,

Have you followed the political situation, or should I should deadlock, in our tiny little country over the past months? Maybe you have, unless you were under a rock somewhere because even the NOS and the Dutch newspapers have dedicated many an item to the ruction in Brussels’ Wetstraat.

Who Wants The Statue Of Albert Mol?

Holland At Its Most Ludicrous

It exists but the million dollar question is, who wants it and where is it going to go? Albert Mol in bronze has five possible locations but there are also quite a few problems here and there. The village of Laren first didn’t want it but perhaps now wants it after all; Giethoorn would love to have the statue, Arnhem was asked but didn’t respond; the TV Toys Museum in Dieren also wanted it and there was also a suggestion to put it somewhere in the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Where, oh where should Albert Mol go?

Fashion - Style 2008-2009 - Milaan

The panicky atmosphere in the United States, caused by the financial crisis and the high commodity prices has also had its effect on the Dutch consumer’s sentiment. More consumers are less confident about the future, so they spend less as well. The economy grew with 3.5% over 2007, but this year it will have gone down to 2.1%, and over 2009 it will have gone down even further to 1.6%. Especially next year we will feel the effects in Holland. Big purchases are put off and luxury products go down, especially when it comes to fashion.
