Gay ADE: Gay Is Not Only About Sexuality... It’s Also About Art and Culture

It’s been more than ten years since Elliott Matos and Benjamin Aillery are doing gay event programming during the Amsterdam Dance Event. The ADE has fast become the world’s largest and leading conference and festival for electronic music which yearly takes place every October. After a few years of being involved with the ADE, Elliott and Benjamin approached ADE creator (then manager) Richard Zijlma, to bring the rainbow and gay venues as official partners.

Since then they brought to it a large variety of GLBTQ artists from around the world, who all share the same love for house and electronic music. Looking for a bigger development of the 2019 Amsterdam Dance Event, the new ADE festival manager, Anne Verlaek, asked Elliott and Benjamin to work on bringing even more diversity and variety into the festival program. This year’s GDE series of showcases, which take place October 16 till October 20, finds a natural spot into the busy ADE schedule with the gay twist ADE was looking for!

“Our focus is to bring diversity to the game, and of course also bring in the gay scene, which we are a part of! We want to show to ADE, and it’s delegates, the important historical impact the GLBTQ community continues to have on the music industry and global club scenes. Gay is not only about sexuality, it is also about arts and culture... this deserves to be clearly recognized. This is why we created the Gay.D.E., a series of events with an GLBTQ line-up that are presented yearly during the ADE week in various gay bars and nightclubs.”

GayDE - We All Dance Together

On the first night of the 2019 GDE four locations throughout Amsterdam will share the welcoming title, “GayDE - We All Dance Together.” The selected gay venues under exclusive contract with Amsterdam Dance Event are Prik, Café the Queen’s Head, The Web and Club Yolo.

Not all the artists are gay, but they all are gay-friendly, and night architects in the global gay scene. Some names of artists for the night are DJ Devotion, John Spinosa, Nicky Drummond, Stefan Philippe, Veering, Ashley Gauthier, Elliott Matos, Jeffrey Cheng, Lady Deep, Manny Ward, and the fabulous Ultra Naté.

The following nights have line-ups unlike other ADE events before.
On Thursday night Cafe the Queen’s Head will host Terri B! and Carrillo Music’s “House My Disco” with the iconic Weather Girls.

At Club Yolo on Friday night, international dance music icon Ultra Naté, along with Amsterdam’s own Mayday, once again brings Naté’s “Deep Sugar” party to ADE. This was an incredible party at Club Yolo last year and not to-be-missed this year! Across town at Prik, another edition of “Women of House” will take place on Friday Night. In its’ sixth year “Women of House” aims to highlight and present the vast supply of female DJs around the globe. It is ADE’s ONLY all-women DJ event.

On Saturday GayDE will first focus on bringing something new. At Club Mystique the duo from the Netherlands, KB (Katya Gabelli, violin player, and DJ Benjamin) will build up the night with a massive musical journey, followed by a live concert from Maud Geffray accompanied by Dutch harpist, Lavinia Meijer, a specialist of Philip Glass. Together they all will fuse electronics with classical instruments, which has become a staple of modern music.

Later on Saturday night at Prik, the Frankie Knuckles (creator of House Music) inspired “Sounds of Blackness” event, which is in its eighth year, will take place. This event features DJs of color from Chicago, New York, Paris and Amsterdam.

To close this year’s GDE, The Web hosts Steve Malenka’s “Paradise Express” with David Harness, Manny Ward, Quentin Harris, and Tedd Patterson. Over at Club Yolo, DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid label will be part of “Acid Jack” with DJs Pierre, Gettoblaster, Hatiras, Paul Johnson, and others. Prik will present a more relaxing time with cocktails and music from main resident DJs from Ibiza with DJs like the infamous Luis del Villar of Ibiza Sensations.

Feel the vibe, the freedom and love we all share in dedication to the music and nightlife that we build as a community! Check online at for a full agenda of the events at The Web, Prik, Cafe the Queen’s head, Club Yolo and Club Mystique. You will find all the artists and information for this very special GLBTQ programming.
