Now that spring is coming, we feel new things growing. The application review period for the new board has been completed, and the job interviews took place at the beginning of May. The candidate board will be announced at the end of May, after which the members will be nominated at the General Members’ Meeting on June 20 and (hopefully) approved.
Already we are extremely proud of the new board and are secretly fond of them, although their installation on the board has yet to be confirmed. We therefore very much hope that they will get through this meeting unscathed.
Yet, we as a board are not nearly finished with our year, and we have more than enough things planned. We have planned our own general meeting on May 20, in which we will be discussing a number of things for the next few years and request input from members for a number of union issues.
Of course, besides our administrative duties, we have also organized some fun get-togethers. On May 9, we left for Milan for our annual long trip, painting the town red. We could be found in Bar Buka on May 16 for a cosy pub quiz. We are a big fan of this new women’s bar, as is a large part of the Amsterdam gay scene. On May 29, the day before Ascension Day, we hold our annual family drink, where members are very welcome to bring family members, friends and all other important people in their lives, and finally show them how we actually spend our time at A.S.V.Gay.
Also in June many nice things await us. For example, we will organize a pub crawl along a number of Amsterdam GLBTQ+ bars as well as a drink for all our former boards. At the beginning of July, we will go away for a weekend to the countryside with all GLBTQ+ associations from the Netherlands.
Finally, we are constantly working hard to organize all kinds of fun for the Pride Week. With, among others, a sing-along, a symposium, a party, and of course a boat on the Canal Parade, we certainly are busy enough! The majority of these activities will also be public, so we hope to see you all! Regularly check our social media channels for more information.
In short, we are a jack-of-all-trades: busy with the new board, but also with Pride, with administrative duties and very pleasant activities, looking ahead and with our feet firmly in the present, as well as enjoying this beautiful spring. The range of activities is enormously diverse, and that makes this job so much fun! We see all sorts of different sides to the GLBTQ scene.
