Play With Me: An Exhibition about Art & Seduction

Till January 27, another high-profile exhibition at Gallery MooiMan male-art is on display in Play with Me. Three artists are at the heart of this cheerful exhibition on the theme Art and Seduction.

The basis for the exhibition is a special and unique art project which also supplied the title of the exposition: “Play With Me” by the Italian artist Diego Tolomelli. He had the original idea of an interpretation of playing cards in which the entire GLBTI community can be distinguished. It is executed in stained-glass windows and started in 2015.

He worked on his project for three years, on nineteen different glass windows. The project, which is as large as a church window, contains the Kings, Queens, Jacks and aces, as well as a Joker and two glass panels of the other side of the blue and red cards. In a limited edition, the gallery released these designs, in which all forms of sexuality are present, as a card game in a luxury box.

How imaginative the Duplo world of the Danish never-too-old to play painter SvendA is, shines through his latest paintings. They are shown as an 18+ play room. SvendA is an artist who paints with elements from the children’s toy universe. He unexpectedly places these cheeky, cheerful plastic figurines - Duplo males - in the seemingly innocent world of the child. A world in which these figurines may not directly belong, they are absorbed by the artist in a “game” for adults.

The versatile artist Antoine Timmermans is showing his original, colourful, winged phalluses in ceramics. They transform eroticism into flying “objets d’art.” “The manipulated and cut up assemblages are like a music box with symbols all made out of Lego building blocks,” Timmermans explains. “They all fit together. While creating them, I combine all the figurines and symbols out of context from their normal environment. I assemble them to my heart’s desire. As a master manipulator I make small virtual bombs, small media bombs in image and sculpture. Based on the collages of Brian Gyson and in the language of the cut-up technique that was developed by his good friend William Burroughs, who had a relatively intuitive way of creating, I come with the possibility of these highly manipulated transformations.”

Diego Tolomelli’s cards come signed by the artist. They are for sale in a limited edition of fifty (€ 19.95, excluding shipping costs) Also, in a very limited edition of only five copies each, the blue and red backs of the playing cards - miniaturised stained-glass versions - are also for sale.

The exhibition is on view until January 27, 2019.
