Judge: terroriser of lesbian neighbours forced to leave rental

by our Editors in General , 19 oktober 2017

A man in Amsterdam has to leave his rented accommodation for terrorising his lesbian neighbours for a period of two years. The serious inconvenience the man caused his neighbours over the past two years was discussed in depth at court.

He tormented his two neighbours with floods of abuse that went on for hours, drunk shouting on the balcony, as well as threats.

The two women repeatedly filed complaints about their neighbour's behaviour at housing association Ymere. As a result, Ymere issued several warnings to the man. The man promised to get treated for his alcohol addiction and psychological issues, but then continued his usual abusive behaviour and threats.

At the end of May 2017, the man signed a so-called "behavioural instruction" drawn up by Ymere and promised to treat his neighbours with respect. The instruction specified that the man would be thrown out of his rental accommodation if a new incident would occur.

Two weeks after signing the document, the man breached that agreement. The couple decided to leave their house in Bos en Lommer and did not want to return until the neighbour had left. They were terrified.

A sound recording of the man's scolding was played in court. The judge: “I fully understand, especially after hearing the lines and threatening sounds recorded, that the neighbours are too afraid to return to their accommodation as long as he lives next door”.

The man now has to leave his rented accommodation and will be assigned new accommodation by Ymere, provided he fully cooperates. In addition to this, he must also pay the legal costs.
