The Zeedijk, Amsterdam’s cosiest street, will again be the place to be on King’s Night and King’s Day, April 27. With a large stage, outside bars, and several live acts and DJs, the party is a guaranteed success. As always, this will be under the inspiring leadership of Coby van Dam.
We met Coby during her lunch break at Sonja’s Sun Center to learn about what we can expect on the Zeedijk this year.
Coby, you must be looking forward to it?
“Of course! It’s always great to feel the love on the Zeedijk, as everyone is welcome on King’s Day, even people from Rotterdam! This year is going to be BUSIER than ever. Last year, everything in between the Zeedijk and Purmerend was stuck in traffic.”
Wow, that is promising! Whom did you invite?
“The sweetest grandmother of the Zeedijk, Victoria False, is going to be there, of course. In spite of her old age, she will give the performance of her life! Also, we will have two terrific thin debutantes: Dolly Wood and Agnes Geneva. These two girls will also be performing live. Isn’t that great! And least but not last we have the Ladies of Disco & Soul. These girls have ‘Respect’ and are ‘So Excited’ to be back on the Zeedijk.”
It all sounds great, but are you going to do something yourself this King’s Day?
“Yes, this year I will be painting my thirteen Chihuahua’s orange.”
I mean on the Zeedijk stage.
Laughs: “Of course I will be singing myself as well, with all sorts of people singing along. Otherwise, I will just be having a good time, you know me.”
And what is this year’s dress code, Coby?
“Dress code?? What do you think! Orange of course. This year we are going for Bijlmer cute with an orange touch and a panther print finish. But you can wear whatever you like. It is a free country!”
Anything else you would like to get off your chest, Coby?
“Yes, twenty-five kilograms. And of course I wish all the lovies a great, exciting and blessed King’s Day. I’m looking forward to it.”
Below find an impression of last year, but of course it's best experienced by just going there of course!
