Transgender Netwerk Nederland (TNN) and COC Netherlands will start registering the problems transgender asylum encounter with care, housing, discrimination, and safety.
In today's world, everyone is aware of refugee issues to some extent. Especially transgenders often feel the need to escape their country of origin for security reasons. Once in the Netherlands, those problems are rarely a thing of the past.
A transgender asylum seeker has to get familiar with the rights and obligations as well. For this reason, the Koploperoverleg Transgender Vluchtelingen (of which TNN, Patiëntenorganisatie Transvisie and COC Netherlands are a member) has started a registration centre.
Initially, the reports will be registered on a Grey List. It is a list of unconfirmed reports on which no action is taken when the report has not been confirmed yet by an interested party. When any of the participants in the Koploperoverleg Transgender Vluchtelingen want to pursue the matter, the interested parties will be contacted for confirmation. When the report is confirmed, it will be put on a Black List. Once on the Black List, the participants in the Koploperoverleg will take action and investigate what they can do to resolve the problem.
How to report?
By email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 020-2050915 (Monday and Tuesday). In case of no answer, contact COC Netherlands (tel: 020-6234596, ask for Jessica van Zadelhoff).
LGBT asylum seekers with problems may also contact COC Netherlands and ask for Jessica van Zadelhoff. However, we do advise everyone to first report problems to the Centraal Orgaan Opvang Asielzoekers (COA).
