Four Openly Gay Party Leaders in Scotland

by our Editors in History & Politics , 06 juni 2016

Dit artikel is ook in het Nederlands beschikbaar

Kezia Dugdale, 34, and party leader of the Scottish Labour Party, has come out of the closet. She is the fourth party leader to come out in Scottish politics.

She was preceded by the Scottish conservative party leader Ruth Davidson, 37, the Scottish party leader of the Greens, Patrick Harvie, 43, and the Scottish party leader of UKIP, David Coburn, 57.

Kezia Dugdale came out in an interview, spontaneously mentioning she has a female partner. She also admitted she hardly ever talks about her sexual orientation, as she feels it is neither necessary nor important.

Yet many others do think it is important, as her coming out was received with many congratulations and positive response.

With this coming out of Kezia Dugdale, Scotland instantly became the only country in the world with four openly gay political party leaders. Kezia Dugdale has been party leader of the Scottish Labour party since August 2015, and is also the youngest party leader ever for Scottish Labour.
