As of November 29 and for six consecutive weeks, the intimate Casa Rosso theater on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal is the domain of the “ladies” of “Travestiecabaret,” the theater group that has been entertaining with “drag with a wink” since 1996.
“I always think these months are so grim. No sun, grey skies. Especially the Sunday afternoons are horror,” organizer Koos van den Berg a.k.a. Coco Coquette tells. “That is why we have organized a cosy Sunday afternoon with sparkling drag cabaret for a consecutive third season. Five titillating shows in the intimate Casa Rosso theater! Each week, we guarantee different and irresponsible entertainment. Live on stage! We have a different show every week with a variety of international top and bottom artists, including new names and old faces.”
“The December program merely consists of highlights,” according to Coco Coquette. Including Merel Moistra, singer-songwriter on bright red high heels with her heart on her sleeves, Pia Vapeur, who will bring Zarah Leander and Hildegard Knef to life and is not afraid of a classical aria, Charité la Bustier, proud bearer of the title “Little Heart of the Zeedijk 2015,” who loosely interprets and translates Song contest songs.
For decades now, born artist Molly Strychnine has proved with androgynous theater that travesty is more than just pure imitation of women, while Bi Polar shows what you can do with an (aluminum) pole.
Showgirl Rose Murphy drops by with her self written hit songs “Are You Ready For Me” and her latest single “Breng de Glamour Terug” (Bring Back the Glamour!), and Kiki Boops shows to be full of expression, from jazzy to classy. Gerrie & Gerrie are two positive minded friends from Brabant, who just do not seem to be able to reel in a man.
They are going to the Christmas Market in Cologne hoping to... With no success so far, but they keep on smiling. And Dora Royale, the Poppers and – breaking news! - Karl Schlagerfeld are also coming!
The afternoon is presented by Coco Coquette and Mario Magic.
