The American Boy Scouts in New York may get into trouble for openly appointing a homosexual as leader. The policy of this youth movement states that only members that are under-aged can be openly gay.
It was not until 2013 that the members of the American Boy Scout that were under-aged were allowed to be openly gay. From 18 onwards, members, leaders and associates are not allowed to be openly gay in the youth movement. Before 2013, being openly gay was forbidden. But when an increasingly larger number of members and leaders were expelled from groups and told their story in the media, this resulted in protest against the policy of the American Boy Scout. This pressure led to the amendment of the policy, but with an option to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
The New York American Boy Scouts group is the first group to openly resist this policy. The group stated it will soon appoint an openly gay man as their leader. The young man has been a member for years and will turn 18 soon. This means that he is supposed to leave the group for one reason only, namely that he is openly gay. Going back into the closet is pointless, as everyone already knows he is gay.
In the past, members and leaders that were not openly gay were expelled after their true nature was found out. The group now has to wait and see how the leaders on a higher level will respond. The fact remains that for years now, there have been local groups that did not follow the policy. They do this in silence and do allow openly gay leaders.
This is not a problem as long as parents do not object.
