Recently, the Ferry Store opened its doors in Rotterdam. Marc Kabbedijk, the creator of the magazine “Ferry,” has realized his dream of creating a 3D version of the magazine with both a store and catering facilities. The initiator calls the Ferry Store “a lifestyle ‘hang-out’ for men who love men.”
Lifestyle should be understood in the narrow sense of the word; think of magazines, prints on the wall, (picture) books, accessories and related items. Items that a visitor of the Store would like to add to his life to create a certain identity. Articles that can be given as presents, or to surprise someone with.
Men attracted to men? Yes, that is what the Ferry Store is all about. Next in line are Art, Design and Photography. Those who are looking for an original present, a nice book, exclusive magazines or the latest issue of “Ferry,” can now also have a Man With Glasses Coffee or enjoy a nice roll while lounging in a design chair by Bart Plantagie. Or have an ice-cold beer in the sun at the end of the afternoon. The men from the Ferry Store love this lifestyle and like to share the feeling with their visitors.
The Ferry Store is a haven for creative men who do not value slickness too much. The crude walls, concrete floor and raw atmosphere are complemented by designer furniture, lamps and other eye-catchers that at first sight seem to magnify the contrast between “beautiful” and “ugly,” but in fact emphasize beauty surrounded by the imperfect. Put your laptop on the table, connect to free Wi-Fi, and create your own relaxed working environment. And of course, visitors are well served by the fun staff!
The Ferry Store wants to offer the best, and that is why they only select the best brands and articles. It is the ultimate place for original gifts. The assortment consists of books on architecture, art, photography, fashion and design, and much more. A joy to give and receive. There is also a whole wall with (inter) national fashion and lifestyle magazines. To take purchases home, the store offers a collection of funny backpacks from Mi-Pac. For customers who want to get a new wardrobe, it carries various brands of clothing.
The Ferry Store also intends to regularly organize exhibitions. The kick-off is the exciting “Red Hot” exhibition by photographer Thomas Knights, who recently published the coffee table book “Red Hot 100" with publisher Bruno Gmünder, a real treat for lovers of men with red hair.
