Architect Cees Dam opened the exhibition “Dolly Bellefleur, My Muse” in the Stopera, Amsterdam’s city hall.
This series of paintings reveals the influence a muse has on the work of an artist, and can be visited till December 6.
Heijmans: “From the very first moment I saw and heard Dolly perform in a church in Haarlem, she has seized me with her striking personality. A sweeping mind: humor, beautiful texts and an excellent dose of (self) mockery. This versatility I try to express in my paintings.”
The architect of the Stopera, Cees Dam, will open the exhibition. In the early 1990s, at the start of Heijmans’s career, he opened one of her first shows in the Renaissance Hotel in Amsterdam. About the works in “Dolly Bellefleur, My Muse” Dam says: “This are paintings which duck completely out of any art historical positioning; paintings which originate from a very personal need, apart from all trends and schools that define the current discourse in the visual arts.” Heijmans is pleased that Dam has agreed to declare her show open in his own temple the Stopera. Contiguous Dolly Bellefleur will perform.
The show consists of thirteen paintings by Jacinta Heijmans and can be visited until December 6 in Amsterdam’s city hall, in the blue corridor on the ground floor.
