On Friday the 19th of October, the eve before the HustlaBall, the HustlaBall Award Ceremony took place at the KitKat-Club in Berlin. These are the only European porn awards, installed four years ago. Consumers have a large say because they can vote for their favorites online and their votes count for one-third in the final competition.
An industry jury and a jury of specialized journalists are responsible for the other third parts. What was remarkable within the last mentioned jury, is that aside from the British Michael T. Smith from “QXmen Magazine,” there were only German journalists.
3500 people eventually voted online, something the organization was very proud of, although that number is of course not even close to the number of Dutch porn consumers.
The HustlaBall Awards prove that the European porn industry has finally grown up and that the time that the late Jean Daniel Cadinot was the only significant European porn producer is well behind us.
This year there were awards in sixteen categories and for a number of them they picked an American as well as a European winner so in total there were twenty awards. Not all awards are as prestigious, a production can win the award for best DVD cover – like this year “Eric’s Raw Fuck Tapes 4” from Treasure Island Media for the United States and Wurstfilm’s “FickstutenMarkt” for Europe – but that says nothing of the quality of the production itself.
So it is somewhat exaggerated that Treasure Island calls itself one of the big winners of this edition based upon three awards, although they did also win Best Studio (USA). But for this last category there were only two other competitors: Lucas Entertainment and Dick Wadd Media.
The Popularity of Bareback
The award for Treasure Island Media is also a sign of the popularity of (fantasies of) unprotected sex amongst the gay community. The studio, founded in 1998 by director Paul Morris, was one of the first two studios to start producing bareback movies. Something the studio was even fined 21,000 dollar for by the Californian Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 2010. The argument was that the studio exposed their workers (the actors) to “semen and other infectious materials.” In spite of these measures by the government bareback porn is growing steadily within the total porn production.
Falcon, a highly respected studio, is now re-releasing productions that used to be labeled “pre-condom classics,” under new titles with the word “bareback” worked in. “The idea of barebacking has,” says a bottom in an interview in Steven G. Underwood’s “Gay Men and Anal Eroticism: Tops, Bottoms, and Versatiles” (New York 2003), “to do with the desire to be absolutely free with someone. It’s a mentality that’s running rampant. People want no restrictions, no constraints. To them, condoms are a constraint that doesn’t have the appeal of a love toy, it’s not part of lovemaking. People want freedom at all costs. [...] Therefore we take risks.”
Yet, not everyone is willing to take the risk of barebacking themselves, and watching a bareback fantasy, which is what porn produces, is a good alternative.
So it’s not surprising that the price for Best Fetish Actor went to “natural born sex-hound” Peto Coast, who stars in several productions from Treasure Island Media (amongst which also “Eric’s Raw Fuck Tapes 4”). Peto Coast was born in Amsterdam in 1983 and started a career in the porn industry in 2007. With a 24 centimeter dick and a very convincing fucking technique this industry seems to fit him like a glove. He immediately starred in bareback productions, for Berlin Star and Wurstfilm.
Mares and Other Horny Animals
As mentioned before Wurstfilm was the winner of the Best European DVD Cover for “FickstutenMarkt,” a movie based on the parties with the same name that are very popular in Germany. Club Fuxxx had the Amsterdam premiere earlier this year. “FickstutenMarkt” also won in the category Best Group Scene and they really deserved that award. In “FickstutenMarkt” willing butts wait to be taken. Just as in the parties the mares first enter the orgy space, they’re blindfolded because the mares are not allowed to see the stallions fucking him. The stallions wait with their dicks erect in anticipation of the starting sign. Some bolt for the best butts immediately, some other big dicks wait till a mare is loose and slick before they enter stage. There’s only one rule: a mare cannot refuse a stallion, too big is never an excuse! It’s obvious why this bareback orgy was an award-winning scene.
“FickstutenMarkt” was also nominated for Best Fetish Film, as was “Analstahl” from Cazzo, a production which was, however, awarded as Best Hunk Film. Cazzo also won Best Fetish Movie with “Krass,” a movie with amongst others a lady with big tits as well as a big dick. This Danni Daniels uses his male genital to fuck Joe Gunner mercilessly; a little later she also fistfucks him. If you think a New York trans top is a little bit over the top “Krass” contains four other scenes, with real men enjoying piss sex, dildos, fists, two dicks in one butt and just good old fashioned fucking.
Both Cazzo award winners were directed by Jörg Andreas, who founded Cazzo film in 1996 together with Jürgen Brüning and won this year’s Best Director Award (Europe). Marc MacNamara of Lucas entertainment was awarded Best American Director. MacNamara directed (and wrote) the Lucas production “The Last Day,” which received the award for Best Film.
In “The Last Day” Jonathan Agassi gets caught up in a complex apocalyptic intrigue of the fame and fortune seeking murderer Damien Cross. The battle between the truth and the end of the world starts when the two men fight each other to survive the last day. Jonathan Agassi was also nominated in the category Best Fetish Actor, but lost to Peto Coast. Agassi, with at least twenty-five productions under his belt, can hardly be called a rooky in the business. The award for Best Newcomer went to Kameron Frost from the French studio Crunchboy. He beat Edji Da Silva (Lucas Entertainment), Tate Ryder (Alphamales), Jack Allen (Treasure Island Media), Vito Gallo (Lucas Entertainment) Léo Helíos (Cazzo), Jace Tyler (Cristian Torrent), Mick Lovell (BelAmi) and Aaron Samuels.
Tops and Bottoms
Spencer Reed of Alphamales was crowned Best Top, beating Brice Farmer (Spritzz), Malik TN (Cazzo), DeAngelo Jackson (Flavaworks), Hot Rod (Treasure Island Media), Anton Dickson (Wurstfilm), Brad McGuire (Treasure Island Media), Kris Evans (Bel Ami), Adrian Long (Lucas Entertainment), Johan Volny (Staxus) and Luke Desmond.
Best Bottom this year: Zaho Sebastian Mann of Spritzz. His butt was considered better buttered than that of Felix Barca, Aaron Samuels, Mathieu Paris, Chris Forny, Jack Harrer, Blake Daniels, Mathew Maon, Reece Ryder and even Treasure Island Media’s Christian, although that seems weird to those who are aware that this guy gained fame with the production “Christian 24 Cocks in 24 Hours,” which seems quite an achievement.
It’s remarkable that some big players from the American industry, like Falcon and Colt Studios, were completely absent, while other important American studios like Lucas Entertainment and Chi Chi LaRue’s Channel 1 Releasing (nominated for “Bad Boys Get Spanked”) were merely represented, and a few bareback studios walked away with most nominations. It makes you wonder how this nomination process really works, but the American industry has its own awards so it doesn’t really matter, or does it?
