The new Black Body shop recently opened its doors in the former post office on 173 Kerkstraat, near Spiegelstraat. For many residents of Amsterdam, this is a familiar spot. Especially for Rick Souwerbren, the driving force behind Black Body. Sixteen years ago, he started the business in this particular neighborhood. Besides the familiar rubber and leather which put Black Body on the map, the new store now also offers various other fetish brands.
“Fetish wear for men” is what Black Body is all about. Or, in other words: Exiting men’s wear.
According to Rick, the new store is extremely open and accessible: “When you look into the shop window, you see the first part of the store with underwear, sportswear, and swimwear.
When you go inside, you see rubber shorts and shirts. The further you go into the shop, the more fetish it becomes: chaps, harnesses and suits can be found at the back of the store. The stairs to the basement will lead you to toys, masks and other accessories. The basement, the former location of the post office heating system, is ideal for those kinds of items.”
The shop became very inviting by arranging it this way. It is easy to just walk in and buy some exiting pants, a tight rubber shirts or a nice toy. You can also visit the store for good advice on leather chaps or a custom made rubber suit.
“The feel of the store is determined by the people who work here. I am very proud of my colleagues Bert and Ismael. The three of us constitute the Black Body team. We are knowledgeable professionals and will give friendly advice to anyone.”
Black Body is specialized in rubber fetish wear for men. This unique, mostly self-designed rubber collection has become known all over the world, partly because of the Internet. The brand Black Body has established a good reputation in rubber.
“When Black Body opened its doors in 1995, the Internet was still in its infancy. We were one of the first in this branch with a web store,” says Rick. “Our main strength was – and still is – that, besides the web store, there is also a physical store. We do not dispatch parcels from the attic.”
After sixteen years, confidence in the brand was so strong that Rick decided to take a new step. Besides Black Body, he wanted to sell other fetish brands. The new shop space was extremely suitable for that. In a short period of time, Rick managed to contract a number of both upcoming and established names in the world of fetish, such as Andrew Christian, Barcode Berlin, Mister B. and Malicious. “Malicious is men’s wear by latex fashion designer Brigitte More. In June, she won the European Fetish Design Award 2012. What she makes is a form of haute couture: There is only one copy of every outfit. Sometimes I jokingly call her the Mart Visser of latex.”
The new store launched at the end of June with a very busy and successful opening. With all fetish brands and different kind of outfits combined, Black Body on Kerkstraat is the place to be when looking for fetish wear for men.
