HustlaBall Awards - And The Winner Is .....

by Xavier van Beesd in Nightlife & Reports , 20 januari 2012

On Friday the 21st of October the HustlaBall Awards were presented aa the first part of the HustlaBall at Berlin’s KitKat-Club. These are the only European porn awards and were granted three years ago for the first time. Consumers are rather important in this contest because they can vote online for their favorites. The battle is therefore not decided by the industry’s topmen.

The contest is also interesting because the European porn industry is more or less equally represented in it and not outshone by the American competition. In most categories the prizes are awarded to both a European and to an American representative. This year there were in total twenty-six awards and two Honorary Awards. Not all prizes have the same importance however.

A production might win the award for Best DVD Cover - as this year Cazzo’s “Use Me!” for Europe and “What I Can’t See 3” from Treasure Island Media for the United States - but that doesn’t say anything about the quality of the films.

The categories most helpful for porn consumers are probably those for the various actors and films. The award for Best Newcomer in Europe went to Stany Falcone, a Belgian football star who’s started a new career in another branch of the entertainment industry with Crunchboy.

He was finally selected in a battle with JP Dubois (Fresh SX), Julian Tomlinson (Spritzz), Jordan Sins (Dreamboy / Eurocreme), Kevin Warhol (BelAmi) and Felix Barca (Cazzo).

The American nominees for Best Newcomer were Jessie Colter (Lucas Entertainment), Kike Garces (Dick Wadd Media), John Sullivan (Treasure Island Media), Arquez (Flavaworks), Vito Mazola (Dick Wadd Media) and Gabriel Lenfant.

The latter carried off the palm for his performance in Michael Lucas’ Backdoor. Although it’s well-known that porn careers are usually rather short, this award raises the question how long someone is still a newcomer. Before he appeared in front of Lucas’ camera, Lenfant worked, as it happens, for CockyBoys and Colt Studios. Lenfant, who’s labeled “versatile,” has worked as a top till now, but an observant consumer noted in a comment on the internet that “his ass looks fucked before so maybe there is a bottom scene in his future.”

As Best Top Europe the voters selected Young Bastards’ Jordan Fox, who let Aitor Crash (Fresh SX), Johan Volny (Staxus), Will Jamieson (Eurocreme), Edward Fox (Cazzo) and Mika Poika (Young Bastards) bite the dust. The Best Top from America is Dick Wadd Media’s Colin Steele. His competitors were Jake Wetmore (Dick Wadd Media), Kurt Wood (Treasure Island Media), Jonathan Agassi (Lucas Entertainment), DeAngelo Jackson (Flavaworks) and Peto Coast who defended the honor of Treasure Island Media. This shows that the demarcation lines between who’s an American and who’s a European actor are rather blurred, because Peto Coast seems to originate from Holland and has also worked with several German companies.

The award for Best Bottom from the United States was granted to Valentino, who works with Flava Works, a Miami based company specialized in features with black and Latino men. Valentino defeated Harry Louis (Lucas Entertainment), Christian (Treasure Island Media), Kyle King (Hot House Entertainment), Marco Cruise (Dick Wadd Media) and Tober Brandt (Treasure Island Media).

The Best European Bottom is JP Dubois from Eurocreme, who apparently throws open his back entrance more eagerly than Basti Winkler, Leo Mack, Kevin Warhol or Ashley Ryder, although that seems surprising for those who have seen the ease with which the latter gets fisted in several movies on the internet.

For onscreen performances there were also awards for the Best Fetish Performer (the Peter Twins for Europa and Boyhous for the United States) and for Best Actor. One wonders what to imagine in the case of this last category, because acting talent is of a very minor importance for porn productions, but the achievements of the award winning veterans François Sagat and Jonathan Agassi during the course of their careers justify this honor completely.

François Sagat en Jonathan Agassi

Of major consequence for the importance that the awards for the assorted movies have for the consumers is, of course, simply what they like. Those who absolutely want to watch Spritzz’s “Schwanzjagd - Cock Chase” because it was selected Best Twink Film, might be less interested to know that “Perverts 3” from the also Berlin based Wurstfilm was considered Europe’s Best Fetish Film, or that Michael Lucas’ “Urine Fist Fest” pocketed the same honor for America.

The Best Hunk Film turned out to be Cazzo’s “Fucking Lost,” while “Raw Rods 9: Heavy on the Cream” from Flava Works was awarded as Best Ethnic Themed Film and Dick Wadd’s “Berlin Pigs Unleashed” contains the Best Group Scene.

What’s striking with the nominations and the awards is that most major players from the American industry, like Chi Chi LaRue, Falcon or, for example, Colt Studios are completely absent, what raises some questions about the selection criterions. It’s also remarkable that the debate about barebacking doesn’t seem to have bothered the organizers in Berlin, considering the prominent representation of bareback producers such as Dick Wadd and Treasure Island Media.
