Circuit Festival (Barcelona 2010)

It has been called the largest European International Gay & Lesbian event. This year, the Circuit Festival saw its third edition, full of culture, dance, tourism and leasure, on different locations in Barcelona and Sitges. There were more than 35 parties and 20 events for more than 55,000 people from all over the world. The Circuit Festival consisted of three parts: The Circuit Festival for gay men, the Girlie Circuit Festival for ladies and the Circuit Bear and Butch, for real men!

All organised by the Matinée group, a Spanish promotion company, very successfully organising parties for the past twelve years. And how! The Circuit Festival has become extremely populair. In 2008, it attracted 35,000 visitors, in 2010 there were 55,000.

The biggest event of the Circuit Festival was the "Waterpark Day & Night". In Sitges, there is a sizeable open air swimming pool with spectacular chutes. It is comparable to Duinrell, but certainly as large as Walibi. What a great location for an event like this.. brilliant! Gay Pride in The Netherlands was wet and cold, but in Barcelona, it was wetter, hotter, very hot indeed!

The atmosphere in the Water Park could be described as sort of Rapido, but then XXXXL outdoors. It was swarming with muscled men in tight swimming trunks. Everyone went water-wild on the terrific DJ beats and groovy club music: Great! The day ended with spectacular fire works, followed by "Waterpark night". All in the open air, as the temperature allowed it. It was great outside, but inside, the disco was also liberating. The party wouldn't stop until six in the morning.

So every day had its own challenges: there were beach parties, shower parties, and quite a lot of club parties. Something for everyone.

It was a very successful festival, although 6 euro for a beer is a bit much, but that didn't spoil the fun. I can definitely recommend it. Barcelona is a wonderful city with lots to do anyway. Check it out!
