by Editorial Staff in Media & entertainment , 16 april 2010

- Show about the legendary singer in the theater -

This spring the show Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me will tour the country. A moving musical show by Harry Kies Theaterprodukties about the legendary British singer. Director Dick van den Heuvel wrote the script. Main actors will be Audrey Bolder, Janke Dekker and Casper Gimbrere. The opening night is on Tuesday the 9th of March in the Leidse Schouwburg. She is the idol of Duffy, Adele and Amy Winehouse.

Trijntje Oosterhuis and Shelby Lynne recently released successful albums with songs that made her famous. From the sixties till the eighties Dusty Springfield scored top hit after top hit worldwide. A small selection: I Only Wanna Be With You, Whishin' and Hopin', You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten, How Can I Be Sure?, Son of a Preacher Man and - with the Pet Shop Boys - What Have I Done to Deserve This? Her voice and music are timeless. But her tumultuous and tragic life also tickled the imagination. Dusty Springfield died in 1999 when she was 59 years old

The show You Don't Have to Say You Love Me is more than a tribute to one of the most important singers from pop history: it combines her music and her life story. When Dusty hears she has breast cancer in 1995 she panics and decides to fly to Amsterdam where she experienced her happiest moments. Before her departure she calls two people: her brother Dion and her manager Vicki.

In an Amsterdam hotel room on the Keizersgracht she looks back upon her tumultuous life filled with pills, booze and sexual denial. And she tries to restore contact with the people she loves now that she knows she’s faced with a lethal disease. Along this storyline her life’s events and her songs come past.

A woman born as Mary O’Brien, who experienced glamour in her role of Dusty, but with a repertoire mostly created by others.

Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have to Say You Love Me is a show of Harry Kies Theaterprodukties. Written and directed by Dick van den Heuvel (Turks Fruit, Brandende Liefde).
