In October it’s my twentieth anniversary as Dolly Bellefleur. I came to Amsterdam all those years ago in a white carriage pulled by six white horses and in the company of Manfred Langer, enacting Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Sissy, to promote my first theater show at the Anthony Theater: “Royal Travesty.”
This twentieth anniversary just screams for celebrations, so there will be an exhibition at the OBA (Public Library) from the 10th of October till the 6th of December with the title “Van hem naar haar naar Hippolytushoef / Twee decennia Dolly Bellefleur” (From Him to Her to Hippolytushoef / Two decades Dolly Bellefleur).
The interactive exhibition on the sixth floor of the library at the IHLIA Homodok (International Lesbian & Gay Archive) department, will paint a diverse portrait - through a selection of pictures, lyrics and columns (I wrote for magazines such as “Gay News,” “Homologie,” “Culture & Camp,” “Colorfull” and “Rainbow Magazine”), theater posters, paintings, costumes, sound and vision - of me as a Dutch queer icon.
I’ve performed at the most diverse events and parties over the past twenty years: from Europride Amsterdam/Berlin to the Roze Wester Festival, the Gay Canal Parade, Pink Saturday Arnhem, Nijmegen Dykes and Fags Day, Pink Monday Tilburg, Homo Expo Hilversum, Rainbow Experience, Loveball, Vondelpark Open Air Theater, Holiday Week for AIDS patients at Huize IJsselvliedt, Pink Planet Haarlem, Gay Games Amsterdam, OutGames Montreal et cetera.
You might have some photos or videos I don’t even know about? If so, would you please contact me? Write me at firstname.lastname@example.org or Dolly Bellefleur, P.O. Box 1430, 1000 BK Amsterdam.
