Join Sixteen Danish Drag Queens at the Homomonument

On Queen’s Night, this year on Friday 28th of April, the third Drag Queen Olympics will be held at the Homomonument. Amongst the Olympic competitions will be all-time favorites such as the Handbag Throw and the 500m Sashay around the Westerkerk. Watch an entire gaggle of high-heeled gals throw hissy fits while elbowing their way through the Stiletto Dash or try to outshine each other in the Play Back knock-out.

This year Dunst, a collective of sixteen Danish Drag Queens, will fly especially to Amsterdam in search of Olympic Gold. Already warming up in their native country, these girls plan to avenge the poor showing of Denmark in the recent winter Olympics as well as perform their latest show for their Dutch fans.
Queen’s Night will be hosted by the venerable Coco Coquette, Maria Magic and Zsa Zsa Gaybar, with the whole evening devoted to the fine art of Drag.

Anyone can take part in the Olympics, just bring your heels and wig to the Homomonument from 5pm onwards on Queen’s Day Eve, 28th April. Make-up artists will be available, but if you’re in need of a little help with the eyeliner you will have to contact the organizers as soon as possible (

The Games begin at 7pm. Major prizes are to be won, so start your fitness program now - but be warned, the competition will be fierce!

The Drag Olympics are part of the four day Roze Wester Festival, held since 1992 on the Homomonument. Organized by Stichting Gala, the Festival takes place during Queen’s Night, Queen’s Day, as well as 4th/5th May (Remembrance Day and Liberation Day), all at the Homomonument on the Westermarkt in Amsterdam.

On Queen’s Day there will be an outdoor disco at the Homomonument from midday till 9pm, with international DJs and acts.

Over the past ten years this party has become one of the best places to hang out on Queen’s Day, and is one of the few parties where gays (and dykes) from all the different scenes come together.

On May 4th at 8pm is the solemn ceremony at the Homomonument where the community comes together to remember not only the murder of gays during the Second World War but the continual oppression of gay rights till this day. Organized by COC Amsterdam, this event is especially poignant as the laying of the wreaths at the national monument in 1970s - or rather the refusal to do so - was the instigation for the creation of the Homomonument itself.

On the 5th of May the Homomonument is home to the only national gay party to celebrate Liberation Day.

From midday on, a full day of stage shows, as well as the only annual gay market to be held in Amsterdam, takes place on the monument.

This year COC joins the party to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
From 5pm onwards there is an open-air disco which kicks on till 11pm, with plenty of surprise acts.

This free outdoor extravaganza has become one of the best annual events in the city, so make sure you don’t miss it.
