Correctly or not, many people see the porn industry aa a rather sleazy business, where the actors are treated as just pieces of meat. This is of course the result of the rather sniggering atmosphere which still surrounds all aspects of sex. A beautiful example of this was given by Johnny Hazzard in an interview with “Blue” magazine. During the New York Fashion Week Boy George asked the attractive porn star to make an appearance during the presentation of his B Rude fashion line. To get press attention Boy George wanted to send Johnny Hazzard down the runway naked.
“I got there and I was all prepared, but the police department had told him [Boy George] that if that happened I would be arrested. I don’t want that,” said Hazzard. Fortunately, this incident didn’t end the collaboration between Boy George and Johnny Hazzard. George’s collection features pieces with the words “I’m Johnny Hazzard” and “Watch me play with my dick.”
Although many men still don’t let their books with male nudes lie around on the coffee table, but prefer to stack them away behind other books or in the bedroom (which can of course also have completely different reasons), porn is gradually coming out of the closet. This might be because many queer men who grew up with porn are now in influential positions, like Boy George and also photographer Greg Thompson, who’s not only a celebrated fashion photographer but who also shoots the stills for Chi Chi LaRue’s porn productions.
LaRue’s company Rascal Video has now taken the bull by the horns by producing a sumptuous photo book, in which Greg Thompson didn’t capture the stars in the usual porn poses, but transformed them into real stars.
And not only these guys are presented glamourously, the book itself has a luxurious character.
In the blurb Thompson writes about this project: “I’d describe the pictures in this book as fashion photographs, only without all the clothing and accessories.
And unlike most fashion models, these models really have NO inhibitions whatsoever, which is what makes them so much fun to shoot.
But the men in this book are more than just models - they are also celebrities in their own right, with adoring fans who obsess over them like any other mainstream movie star, and they deserve to be photographed and recognized as such.”
Thompson has realized his goal perfectly, since Luca Dicorso, Jan Fischer, Brandon Lee, Tommy Ritter, Tag Adams, Rafael Carreras, Joshua Adams and of course many times the tattooed rough diamond Johnny Hazzard are captured stylefully, without however ignoring the qualities which made them famous. “Warning” is a photo book which could get a place on the shelf with jerk off stuff as well as on the coffee table.
